Let’s celebrate now!

The official newspaper of our university, Egyetemünk, celebrates its 60 ^th birthday  this year.
Undoubtedly, it is a huge milestone in our life that  goes with several surprises for our readers, too. As you probably noticed, new columns were introduced and older columns came to life again in order to give you the best  we can. I believe that it is also reflected in the appearance of these English pages by which we also would like to reach out to foreign students.

It is hard to believe that 60 years ago enthusiastic students grabbed papers and pens and started to write  to create the yearbooks of students’ life in Veszprém. The first newspapers appeared under the direction of János Farkas who was the first editor in chief. At that time, the university was a newly founded institution headed  by Károly Polinszky, and  it served as an inspirational environment that provided many things to write. In those days the university had to fight to get an excellent reputation  both in Hungary and  Veszprém.

As a result, , youth of the town regarded university students as rivals who weaken their role in the community. Fortunately, Egyetemünk could help to decrease the emerged tension between the parties by facilitating communication. Since that time the situation has completely changed and the university  with its students became a crucial part of Veszprém’s life.

As you may have seen, there is a long story behind this newspaper with good and bad times, too. However, the future still has some surprises for us that  we would like to present to  you. If you want to be a part of this,  follow us in the following years, too.
